AVISO Technologies - CellCelector

This Aviso CellCelector is in excellent condition and is less than three years old.

This X-Y-Z robotic system is capable of a positional accuracy in the 0.01 mm range. It is fitted with a standard Olympus CKX41 inverted microscope and an Fview2 monochrome CCD camera with motorised focus.

The system is supplemented with AVISO’s in-house developed motorised microscope sample stage which allows the use of various vessel types for cells and clones (e.g. Petri dishes, micro titre plates and multi-well plates) and positions the objects of interest into the image field of the microscope and CCD camera.

Software - The AnalySIS software has integrated image processing and enables the entire picking process to be controlled and fully documented. Cell cultures, clones and individual cells are clearly and easily identifiable by the software. It allows a completely automated process from scan to harvest with real time monitoring: during the harvesting process the content of the culture dish can be conveniently viewed on the monitor. It also allows for complete documentation of the process: before and after images of the harvested cell/colonies can be stored in a database and assigned to the storage place of the destination plate (e.g. micro titre plate).

In its current configuration, the system if fitted with the agar harvesting module for picking cells/colonies from semi-solid media via disposable tips and has been used for picking colonies of E.coli. However, the system could be adapted and modified to pick cells from mammalian culture with or without the addition of a fluorescence microscope.
